Colleton Prep baseball scored seven runs over the first four innings, then held off John Paul II for a 9-5 road win in a region matchup Wednesday.
The War Hawks struck for three runs in the first inning and answered JPII’s two-run third with four in the fourth to break it open. The Golden Warriors chipped away with one run each in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, but CPA scored single tallies in the sixth and seventh to keep the rally at bay.
Kyle Hooker earned the win on the mound for CPA, striking out 10 and allowing three runs (two earned) and five hits over five innings with three walks. Cole Gulotti finished it off with two hitless innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) with four strikeouts and two walks.
Gulotti was also 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice, while Colton Daniels had a double and two RBIs, Jeb Bootle knocked in two runs, and Carter Smoak and Huiet Rowe each added RBI knocks for the War Hawks.
Landry Donath was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead JPII, and Tripp Currier gave the Golden Warriors his strongest outing of the season, going 4 1-3 innings.
CPA (6-6, 5-1) plays a non-region game against Andrew Jackson Academy on Friday.
JPII (2-5, 2-3) travels to Beaufort Academy for a region matchup Thursday.
