May River boys lacrosse star Brooks van Esselstyn made his season debut in impressive fashion Friday, scoring five goals and an assist in just 22 minutes of action to lead the Sharks to a 14-12 win over visiting Richmond Hill.
The sophomore standout van Esselstyn posted a hat trick in the first four minutes of the game and tacked on two more goals and an assist in his first game back following offseason surgery, while senior Rob Gadomski added four goals of his own for the Sharks.
Ethan Sotiropoulos added two goals and two assists, and fellow senior Hudson Kramer had a goal and an assist on a night in which the Sharks honored their 11 seniors at halftime.
Jacob Bollinger recorded a goal, while fellow sophomore Thomas Raisch was tabbed with the responsibility of shutting down Richmond Hill’s top player.
The Sharks (7-2, 4-1) resume region play Monday at Hilton Head High.
