Hilton Head Prep baseball gave head coach Chris Wells his 300th career win in dominant fashion Friday, no-hitting Memorial Day in a 13-0 home victory.
Phoenix Betancourt, Torin Hrobar, and Harrison Green combined to complete the no-no while striking out eight total batters and walking just two. Green doubled as the main man on offense, delivering three of his team’s eight hits while Reese Malon drove in three runs.
“Phoenix and Harrison turned in a stellar performance on the mound for us today,” Wells said. “It’s so important for us to pound the strike zone as a staff and today was another great example of that.”
After coaching at Hilton Head High, Wells took over in Sea Pines and built a formidable squad, winning the first nine games of the 2021 season with the latest triumph crossing the tremendous 300-win mark.
“I feel so blessed to reach this milestone,” Wells said. “It’s very humbling to have the support I have at Prep, and this group of players makes it so fun to show up at work every day.”
