Hilton Head Prep’s boys couldn’t recover from a slow start in the first round of the SCISA 3A state tournament, falling 58-50 to Northwood Academy on Saturday at Pinewood Prep.
The Dolphins fell behind 31-15 at halftime and trailed by as many as 22 in the third. But JJ Hayes and company put together a valiant comeback, closing the gap to just five with two minutes to go before the Chargers held on.
Hayes finished off the year with another monster double-double, leading the Dolphins with 22 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Ryan Mikell scored 11 points and was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
In his final basketball game at HHP, Luke Foley cleaned up on the boards with 14 rebounds to go with a pair of blocks, and Kane Eanes capped off a stellar sophomore season with seven points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
Hilton Head Prep concludes the season with a record of 15-5.
