The Dolphins were able to get hot from 3-point range early, scoring 15 of their 18 points in the first half from beyond the arc. But an all-around defensive effort for all four quarters is what propelled them to victory.
Despite the loss, John Paul II coach Karen Floyd felt optimistic about the way her team has performed in the final weeks of the regular season. It was the second one-point game in two nights for the Golden Warriors, who upset Beaufort Academy 49-48 on Tuesday.
“The level of improvement shown by these girls has been fun to witness, and should give us some momentum heading into the playoffs,” Floyd said.
Hilton Head Prep (8-9) will face Porter-Gaud in the first round of the SCISA Class 3A playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday at Pinewood Prep.
John Paul II (6-10) will face Lee Academy in the first round of the SCISA Class 2A playoffs at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Wilson Hall.
