It’ll be an all-Lowco Lower State wrestling championship.
May River’s dynamite squad made quick work of Hartsville in the Class 4A Lower State semifinals on Monday, defeating the Red Foxes 58-18 at home to set up a winner-take-all bout with the Hilton Head High Seahawks on Wednesday night.
The Sharks were dialed in from the start, making a statement with six straight pins to open the evening. Anthony Nelson, Gabriel Juarez, Wyatt Banfield, Chris Snowden, Eli Hall, and Billy Hall came through to give their squad a commanding 36-0 lead.

Banfield and Eli Hall didn’t waste any time, finishing off their opponents in just the first period. May River scored a pair of forfeit wins before Emilio Mendoza pinned his foe in the second period to go up 54-0 and put the contest out of reach. Santiago Rueda capped off a dominant night with a major decision victory, recording an early takedown and a trio of near falls to put the finishing touches on an impressive team postseason performance.
May River will look to replicate its 61-14 thrashing of the Seahawks three weeks ago, as the Sharks host their Lowco rivals Wednesday night for a spot in the 4A dual state championship against Indian Land or Eastside.
