May River’s boys took the court for the first time since Jan. 22 and came away with a key region win Monday, beating visiting Lucy Beckham 63-40.
After a slow start in the first quarter, the Sharks were able to shake off the rust and start to nail three-pointers and and-ones to claim the momentum and surge to a 31-19 halftime lead. May River outscored the Bengals 22-5 in the second quarter and never looked back.

With the lead up to 53-29 after the third quarter, the Sharks were able to empty the bench and display their balance, as 11 May River players scored.
Sophomore Gavin Blocker had a big night with 15 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Brady Harrell added 12 with a big night in the post. Jason Epke-Bueso and James Layman scored eight apiece, and Garvin Douglas contributed seven.
Lucy Beckham’s Thomas Oppold had an impressive night with 26 points, splashing five three-pointers.
The Sharks (5-4, 4-1) wrap up the regular-season at Beaufort High (6-4, 4-4) on Wednesday, while the Bengals host Bluffton. May River needs a win to improve its seed in the Region 7-4A tournament, which begins Friday.
