WBB: Salk rides big first half to 3-0 start

The USC Salkehatchie women stayed perfect with a 76-70 win at Louisburg College on Saturday, holding off a late rally from the Hurricanes for a big road win.

The Indians were in total control in the first half, leading 18-12 after one quarter and extending the margin to 46-23 with a blistering second quarter, but Louisburg surged back after the break. The Hurricanes trimmed the deficit to 14 heading to the fourth and kept the pressure on down the stretch before running out of time.

Mariah Igus led a balanced effort for Salk with 18 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while Andre’sia Alexander had 10 points, five assists, and two steals. Kaia Simpson added 16 points, and Halle Davis had 10 for the Indians.

USC Salk (3-0) continues an eight-game road trip at Cape Fear College on Wednesday. The Indians don’t play a home game until March 6 against Louisburg.
