HSGBB: Sharks fall short in OT at Pinewood

May River’s girls got off to a red-hot start, but the Sharks came up short in overtime on the road Tuesday, falling 56-49 to SCISA power Pinewood Prep. 

The Sharks built an 18-5 lead after one quarter before the Panthers locked down on defense and began to chip away. Pinewood pulled within 25-16 at halftime and closed the gap to 29-27 after three quarters before forcing overtime. The Panthers outscored the Sharks 12-5 in the extra period.

Jordan Bigham poured in 23 points to lead the way for May River, including six in the fourth quarter and a 3-pointer in overtime. Morgan Kinlaw-Scott added 12 points, and McKenna Swinton added five for the Sharks.

Jessica Mangas scored 17 points, X’Zoria Vaughn added 14, and Danyell Sanders had 13 for the Panthers.

May River (2-2) hosts Effingham County (Ga.) at 6 p.m. Saturday.
