HSBBB: Balanced Dolphins outlast Calvary in OT

Hilton Head Prep’s boys worked overtime again Tuesday to take down a strong opponent from the Peach State, beating host Calvary Day 65-62 in OT.

The teams battled back and forth all evening, with the Cavaliers leading by one at halftime. Just like they did in Monday’s opener against Long County (Ga.), the Dolphins forced overtime and closed it out in the extra period thanks to key 3-pointers from Ryan Mikell and Kane Eanes.

JJ Hayes collected 18 points and six rebounds and Eanes had 17 points and seven boards to lead the way for the Dolphins, while Jayden Chance added 10 points and four assists. Mikell contributed eight points, and Luke Foley had another monster game on the boards with 12 rebounds to go with seven points.

Mikell and Eanes each drained 3-pointers from the left wing in overtime to give the Dolphins the lead, and Calvary’s 3-pointer at the buzzer rimmed out, allowing HHP to hang on.

HHP (2-0) travels to Coastal Homeschool on Monday before hosting Habersham School for its home opener Tuesday.
