For the fourth straight year, Thomas Heyward Academy will end its football season playing for a state title game, and has often been the case this season, there was never any doubt for the Rebels on Friday night.
The two-time defending SCISA 2A champion Rebels rolled to a 48-20 home win over Dillon Christian, rolling up more than 550 rushing yards to cruise to their 11th consecutive victory.
JR Patterson rushed for 245 yards and two TDs on 16 carries, and Anthony Fripp added 158 yards and a TD on 12 rushes to lead the way behind another dominant showing from THA’s offensive line. Brandon Howard added 51 yards and a score on four carries, Dietrich Shuford rushed five times for 55 yards, and Bruzza Pusha added 53 yards on five carries and three receptions for 61 yards and a score for the Rebels.
Peyton Bennett was 5-for-10 for 81 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Pusha to make it 22-0 and opening the second half with a 17-yard TD strike to Preston Humbert to make it 34-8.
THA’s defense continued its outstanding play, recording a safety in the first quarter and shutting down the Warriors until the starters called it a night in the fourth quarter.
The Rebels (11-1) will face Robert E. Lee Academy for the SCISA 1A title at 5:30 p.m. next Saturday at Charleston Southern.
