Hilton Head Prep went toe-to-toe with top-seeded Carolina Academy in the first half, but a trio of turnovers derailed the Dolphins and the Bobcats pulled away after halftime for a 36-7 win in the first round of the SCISA 2A playoffs.
The Dolphins were poised to take an early lead before fumbling inside the 5-yard line, and the Bobcats made them pay with a scoring drive capped by George Wilder’s 4-yard TD run.
Carolina quarterback Matt Joye added a touchdown run to make it 14-0 at halftime, and the Bobcats pulled away in the third quarter on Austin Brown’s 61-yard TD run and Joye’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Cade Castles.
The Dolphins had chances to stay in the game, but three turnovers in the red zone derailed their plans. The Bobcats twice picked off Harrison Green to thwart promising drives, and HHP didn’t get on the board until Tommy Stauffer broke a 60-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
HHP (3-6-1) couldn’t come up with the defensive stops necessary to make a comeback, as Carolina rolled up more than 400 rushing yards against a Dolphins’ defense that was shorthanded with senior linebacker Carson King sidelined.
