HSTEN: Dolphins prevail, JPII’s McClure notches big win

Hilton Head Prep girls tennis took down region rival John Paul II on Thursday, winning 7-2, but the Golden Warriors came away with a thrilling win at No. 1 singles.

The outcome of the match was already decided by the time JPII’s Trice McClure finished off an epic 4-6, 7-5, 13-11 win over Avery Brothers on the first court, as Prep ran through the rest of the lineup in straight sets.

The Dolphins also won two of the three doubles matches. Lizzie Lofye and Sami Heginbottom each won their singles matches easily and teamed up for a victory at No. 1 doubles for the Dolphins.

HHP (6-0) travels to Beaufort High on Tuesday. JPII travels to Barnwell on Monday.
