Thomas Heyward pulled away after being tied at halftime to earn a huge road win Friday, beating Trinity Collegiate 30-14 in a matchup of defending SCISA state champions.
Peyton Bennett rushed for one touchdown and threw another to Bruzza Pusha, who added a rushing touchdown of his own during the Rebels’ big second half.
JR Patterson’s 5-yard touchdown run and Brandon Howard’s two-point conversion gave THA an early 8-0 lead, but the Titans answered to tie it at 8 before halftime.
The Rebels recovered an onside kick on the opening kickoff of the second half — the first of three consecutive successful onside attempts for THA in the second half. That set up Bennett’s 1-yard plunge, and he connected with Pusha for the conversion to give the Rebels the lead.
The Titans pulled within 16-14, but never got any closer. Bennett and Pusha connected for a 5-yard TD, and Bennett added the conversion to make it 24-14, and after their third straight onside kick recovery, Pusha punched in a 3-yard TD for the final margin.
THA (2-1) hosts Hilton Head Prep for a non-region matchup next Friday.
