HSVB: Dolphins go the distance in win over Lions

Hilton Head Prep volleyball received its toughest test of the season Thursday, but the Dolphins outlasted visiting St. Andrew’s for a five-set victory to remain undefeated.

After sweeping the Lions in the first meeting, the Dolphins had to fight to the finish to secure the victory in the rematch, rallying after dropping the first set to claim a 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-10, 22-25, 16-14) win.

Madison Denny continues to control the net for the Dolphins and racked up a match-high 22 kills, while Gracie Palumbo-Alkire and Allison Taylor each added six. Denny also served up eight of HHP’s 19 aces, while Gabby Bettez added five.

Palumbo-Alkire also was a force in the middle with five blocks, while Haylee Hopman picked up 20 digs, and Bettez, Ashley Wilmot, and Abi Mendoza added 13 digs apiece. Bettez dished out 18 assists, and Ella Clark added 13.

HHP (6-0) hosts Beaufort Academy for a region match at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
