It was a big weekend on the diamond for Bluffton Waves travel baseball teams, as Waves teams won four tournament titles and claimed a runner-up finish in action throughout the region over the weekend.
The biggest highlight came from the 12U team, which won its second consecutive Perfect Game title at the Fireball Challenge in Atlanta. AJ Thomas’ three-run homer in the top of the sixth gave the Waves the lead and propelled them to an 11-7 victory over NGE Baseball in the championship game. The 12U squad is now 20-2 on the season.
The 11U Waves went 3-0-1 to win the USSSA Under Armour championship in Walterboro, beating East Coast Bombers Blue 11-3 in the championship game. The pitching staff limited opponents to an average of three runs per game, and Kollin Sanchez’s first career home run highlighted a balanced offense.
The 10U Waves won their second consecutive tournament in Springfield, Ga., reeling off four consecutive victories after dropping an 8-7 decision in their pool play opener. Chase Cotter and Kallan Gordon combined to pitch the Waves to a 6-5 win over the Effingham Knights in the title game.
The 8U Waves Blue also won a tourney title in Springfield, going 3-1 and avenging an earlier loss to Sluggers Elite with a 14-6 victory in the championship game. The Waves scored 57 runs in their four games.
The 9U Waves Gray bounced back from going 0-2 in pool play Saturday in Rincon to knock off the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds Sunday before falling in the championship game.
