Golf Digest report gives hope for RBC Heritage to be played in June

With Hilton Head Island and all of the golf world missing the RBC Heritage Presented By Boeing this week, Golf Digest has provided a glimmer of hope that the PGA Tour will make its annual stop in the Palmetto State this year after all.

The publication reported Tuesday that “PGA Tour officials are expected to announce this week their intention to resume the tour season” the second week in June, and cited anonymous sources who indicated the PGA Tour would resume play June 11-14 at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, followed by a “potential PGA Tour tournament” from June 18-21, when the U.S. Open was scheduled to be played before being postponed until September. The Heritage “is likely to fill that slot,” according to Golf Digest’s sources.

If the Heritage does happen in 2020, it won’t just be the traditional date the week after the Masters in April that changes.

The report said the early tournaments on the revised schedule would be played without spectators, and the fields would likely be expanded to allow more golfers to make up for lost playing opportunities.

RBC Heritage officials have not commented on the report.
