Junior golf stars Hylton, Griz teaming up to help community heroes

Local junior golf stars Savannah Hylton and Jonathan Griz are used to posting low numbers and racking up hardware this time of year, and they’ve aced the project they’ve taken on in lieu of golf during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hylton came up with the idea of putting together care packages for Hilton Head Island healthcare workers and first responders to say thanks for their dedication and sacrifices during the pandemic, and she enlisted Griz as her partner in the venture.

The two pooled some of the money they had set aside for playing in top junior golf tournaments this summer and delivered about 300 goody bags filled with drinks and snacks, as well as several large baskets of treats for area fire stations.

Now they’re asking for donations to keep the project going.

The duo also posted a “thank you note challenge” on their GoFundMe page, challenging others in the community to join them in writing 10 thank you notes to area healthcare heroes or first responders.

“In the end, our goal was to spread positivity throughout our community,” Hylton said.
