Thomas Heyward broke open a close game with a seven-run fifth inning en route to a 12-3 home win over John Paul II on Tuesday.
Louie Smith struck out nine over five innings and limited the Golden Warriors to three runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks to earn the win, and Nicholas Wise took over for the final two innings and allowed four hits and two walks in two scoreless frames.
Smith was also one of the stars at the plate for the Rebels, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, while Fulton Wade went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBIs, and Peyton Bennett was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Peter Hughes was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs for the Golden Warriors. Tyler Davis took the loss for JPII, giving up five runs over three innings.
THA (2-2) hosts Hilton Head Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
JPII (2-2) plays at Bluffton at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
