BSB: Dolphins blow away Hurricanes for first ‘W’

Hilton Head Prep picked up its first win of the season Monday, playing flawless defense and breaking out at the plate in an 18-0 road win over the Coastal Hurricanes.

After defensive miscues let down the Dolphins in their first two games of the season, they played error-free ball behind a strong outing from Reese Malon to earn their first victory. Malon struck out eight and allowed two hits over four scoreless frames, and Trevor Weldon worked a scoreless fifth to preserve the shutout.

“Man, we needed that win,” HHP coach Chris Wells said. “And the way we got it, playing sound defense behind a strong outing by Reese.”

Wells was also pleased with the Dolphins’ approach at the plate, as their aggressiveness resulted in 14 hits, including seven doubles.

Luke Foley led the offensive outburst, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI, while Jaiden Hrobar was 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs. Tommy Stauffer went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, Connor McDonnell was 2-for-5, with two runs and two RBIs, and Tristan Bonomo was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
