FB: Early fumbles derail Hilton Head Sharks in opener

The Hilton Head Sharks opened their Independent American Football League season with a 22-0 loss to the visiting Savannah Raiders on Saturday at Hardeeville’s Richard Gray Sports Complex.

The Sharks had the early momentum before a fumble inside the Raiders’ 5-yard line derailed a promising drive. Hilton Head coughed it up two more times in the first half to help Savannah build an insurmountable lead.

Defensive ends Adam Becker (8 sacks) and Devon Williams (5 sacks, 5 tackles for loss) led the Sharks on defense, while tight end Noah Middleton had three catches for 86 yards to lead the offense.

The Sharks travel to Orange Park, Fla., to face the Florida Falcons at 7 p.m. Saturday.
