May River’s girls stayed perfect in region play Friday, but the Sharks paid a price.
The Sharks had no trouble with visiting Ridgeland-Hardeeville, rolling to a 63-37 victory, but they lost guard Gracyn Drury to a possible concussion in the process.
Chynna Sneed poured in 19 points, Emma Peluso scored 10, and Jordan Bigham and Drury each added seven for the Sharks, but even after another convincing win, they were more concerned about Drury’s status after taking an inadvertent elbow to the head than they were about their perfect region mark.
“Hopefully she’s going to be back real soon,” Sharks coach Jermaine Bigham said. “She’s going to the doctor on Monday, so we’ll see how that works out.”
May River ran out to a 17-4 lead after one quarter and was up 31-13 at halftime, but the Jaguars kept clawing away in the second half, as Asiana Scott hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter and Darien knocked down a pair of triples in the fourth. Scott finished with 14 points to lead the Jaguars.
“(The Jaguars) came out and gave us a challenge and showed us some things that we still need to work on,” Bigham said.

May River (12-5, 6-0) plays a non-region game at Hilton Head High at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
