HSWR: Seahawks close regular season with two wins

Hilton Head High wrestling celebrated senior day by sweeping a pair of dual matches Thursday.

The Seahawks avenged an earlier loss to Bamberg-Ehrhardt with a 41-34 win over the top-ranked team in Class 2A, and they rolled to a 66-18 win over rival Bluffton to clinch second place in Region 7-4A.

After losing to Bamberg-Ehrhardt at the Coach Trap Duals earlier this month, the Seahawks took control of the rematch early, as Sam Alsobrook’s pin in the second match of the night started a string of four straight wins for HHIHS. Amare Ford and Peter Rougeux also recorded pins during the run, and Ean Gardner won by decision.

After the Red Raiders stopped the avalanche with a pin, Jesus Catalan scored a major decision to kick off another four-match run for the Seahawks. Nic Levy followed with a technical fall, Drew Vigh recorded a pin, and Sabastian Agnew won by forfeit to give the Seahawks an insurmountable lead.

The Seahawks picked up 48 points off forfeits in their win over the Bobcats, while the six contested matches were all decided by pins. Catalan, KJ Holland, and Jimmy Jacobs recorded pins for the Seahawks, while Xavier Dykstra, Cam’ron Darby, and Daniel Ussery had pins for the Bobcats.

The state dual playoffs start Feb. 8.
