It wasn’t pretty, but May River’s boys picked up a pivotal region win at home Tuesday, beating a scrappy Battery Creek team 58-37.
Harry Cash scored 13 points, Gavin Blocker added 11, and Jason Epke-Bueso had nine to lead the Sharks, while James Layman and Jimmie Green each contributed eight points. May River led 21-11 at halftime after both teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm early.
Battery Creek’s Jordan Rivers scored 12 of his game-high 16 points in the third quarter to try to spark a Dolphins comeback, but Blocker seemed to answer him at every turn. The May River freshman scored all of his 11 in the third to help the Sharks maintain a 10-point halftime advantage before pulling away in the fourth.
May River (5-6, 2-1) plays a region game at Wade Hampton at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Battery Creek (2-12, 1-3) plays a non-region game at First Baptist at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
