Each Monday (or Tuesday) throughout the high school wrestling season, we recognize the standouts from the previous week’s action with the Lowco Wrestling Spotlight presented by Candor USA.
We select two Wrestlers of the Week — one in the lower weights (106-145) and one in the upper weights (152-285) — as well as a Team of the Week, and highlight the biggest match of the coming week.
Here’s this week’s installment of the Lowco Wrestling Spotlight presented by Candor USA.
LOWER WEIGHTS WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Isham Peace, MRHS
The Sharks’ junior 113-pounder continues to dominate the competition. After going undefeated in seven matches at the Coach Trap Memorial Duals last weekend, Peace recorded three pins and two forfeits in five bouts at the Timberland Duals on Saturday. Peace has just two losses on the season.
UPPER WEIGHTS WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
Eli Hall, MRHS
How good are the Sharks in the upper weights? This is their third big fella to win the award this season. Hall has been on fire, locking down the 220-pound weight class. He was undefeated at the Coach Trap Duals and the Timberland Duals and has lost only once this season.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
May River Sharks
The Sharks have put together an impressive stretch with a runner-up finish at the Coach Trap Duals and a team title at the Timberland Duals. May River is 21-3 in dual matches — one of those losses came to Class 5A No. 13 Fort Dorchester in the first week of the season, and the other two came against Class 4A dynasty Eastside. The Sharks are ranked third in Class 3A and preparing for a deep run in the playoffs.
MATCH OF THE WEEK
Battery Creek at May River, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday
It’s a light slate this week, but at least the Region 8-3A title is on the line in this Lowco-on-Lowco matchup. The Sharks shouldn’t have too much trouble securing the region title, but there should be several intriguing individual matchups, including a good one at 106 pounds between May River’s EJ Seman and Battery Creek’s Sam Degroat.
