May River’s wrestling team continued to mow down the competition Saturday, going 5-0 to win the team title at the Timberland Duals.
The Sharks won two matches by perfect scores and nearly had a third perfecto, beating Cross and Marion 84-0 and downing Phillip Simmons 83-0.
May River then edged Class 5A No. 10 Lexington 42-29, sealing the win with back-to-back pins from Rod Grant and Eli Hall after the Wildcats had pulled within one. The Sharks easily took down Class 4A No. 14 Ashley Ridge in the championship match, winning 52-16.
Anthon Funderburk went 5-0 with four pins and a major decision, Eli Hall was 5-0 with four pins and a forfeit, and Isham Peace was 5-0 with three pins and two forfeits. Rod Grant (two pins, two forfeits), Jaxson Merriwether (two pins, decision, forfeit), and Chad Hedden (two pins, decision, forfeit) were 4-0, and Patrick Treacy was 3-0 with two pins.
CJ Ciccarelli (two pins, forfeit), Anthony Nelsen (two pins, forfeit), and Donovan Ling (two pins, technical fall, forfeit) each went 4-1, and Mike Sunkins (3-1) and Kailin Prescott-Ferguson (3-2) each had three pins for the Sharks.
The Sharks travel to Battery Creek on Wednesday.
