HSBBB: HHP’s Calloway pours in 38 to rout JPII

The question of whether Tyrone Calloway could really put this young Hilton Head Prep team on his back this season was surely answered with a resounding “YES” Tuesday night.

Calloway decimated the John Paul II defense with a whopping 38 points and led the Dolphins to a 82-38 blowout win over the visiting Golden Warriors.

“I just try to play my best game every night, just try and get better and get the win,” Calloway said.

HHP raced right out of the starting blocks, opening up the game on a 21-5 run and never looking back, extending the margin to 42-16 at halftime. Calloway scored 14 of his points in the second quarter.

“We knew we had to come out strong early,” Calloway said. “We didn’t want to play down to their level, because we know we’re a better team.”

The Dolphins were exemplary in passing to find open shooters, leading to nine 3-pointers — four of them from Calloway and three from Ryan Mikell, who scored 13 points in his first start.

Kane Eanes added nine to the scoring ledger for Prep, and Luke Foley was the leading rebounder. JPII had no answer for Calloway, who matched his opponent’s entire total.

CJ Knight scored 10 points and Mark Knight added eight to lead the way for the Golden Warriors.
