HSWR: Sharks finish third at Cane Bay Duals

May River wrestling went 4-1 and finished third among 16 teams at the Cane Bay Duals on Saturday.

The Sharks went 3-0 in pool play with wins over Chester, James Island, and Stratford. They lost to Fort Dorchester (Class 5A No. 14) in the semifinals but bounced back to defeat Wando for third place.

May River was without 220-pounder Rod Grant, who was taking a standardized test, but Isham Peace (113) and Kailin Prescott-Ferguson (285) went undefeated, and Noah Creque, Gabriel Juarez, Anthon Funderburk, Donovin Ling, and Eli Hall also had good days.

“I’m very happy with our team’s effort today,” Sharks coach Ashley Powell said. “They battled and completed for five matches. From top to bottom, i saw some things we can build off from everyone that wrestled today.”
