Hilton Head Island may be world-renowned as a tennis destination, but it has once again taken a backseat to the mainland in head-to-head competition on the court.
The Mainland team defeated the Island squad in the Bridge Bowl finals Sunday, claiming the friendly competition for the fourth time in the event’s five years. The Mainland totaled 39 points to the Island’s 18 in the finals Sunday at Colleton River Club’s Stan Smith Tennis Center to retain the Bridge Bowl trophy for a second consecutive year.
The event was launched in 2015 to foster the friendly rivalry between the island and off-island tennis communities and raise money for local charities. This year’s installment raised an estimated $10,000 for Deep Well Project and Bluffton Self Help.
