Even with their star quarterback sidelined, Hilton Head Prep pulled away in the second half for a 37-27 win over visiting Memorial Day on Friday.
Tommy Stauffer racked up 182 yards on 13 carries, including a 55-yard touchdown run, and caught a 55-yard touchdown pass to lead the Dolphins, who scored 24 points in the third quarter after being tied at 13 at halftime.
Sam Liberatore stepped in for Stone McDonald, who had surgery Thursday to repair a broken nose suffered in a preseason scrimmage, and went 6-for-15 for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Harrison Green snagged a 26-yard TD pass, and Carson King had two catches for 59 yards.
Tristan Bonomo had a big game for Hilton Head Prep, returning a punt for a touchdown and recording three tackles and two fumble recoveries.
The Dolphins (1-0) host Colleton Prep next week.
