Hilton Head Island’s JT Herman used a strong back nine Tuesday to advance to the match play bracket of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
Herman was in danger of missing the cut for the 64-player match play bracket after shooting 4-over-par 75 on Monday and playing the front nine Tuesday in 5-over, thanks to a triple-bogey on the par-4 ninth. But the Hilton Head Prep star rallied on the back nine and carded a bogey-free 3-under 33 to move up to a tie for 37th.
Herman will face China’s Yuxin Lin in the first round of match play at 8:04 a.m. Wednesday.
