HS Softball: Dolphins Down Gilbert Behind Another Gem

Battery Creek posted its third shutout in four postseason games with a 1-0 win over visiting Gilbert on Friday in the first round of the Class 3A Lower State softball tournament.

Alexis Ortiz continued her dominant postseason with 15 strikeouts in a two-hit shutout. In four playoff games, Ortiz has allowed one run and seven hits over 25 innings with 49 strikeouts and one walk.

The Dolphins were hitless until the sixth inning, when Kelsey Hill doubled with two outs and scored the game’s only run on Emily Crosby’s double.

The Dolphins (18-8-1) will travel to Hanahan or Aynor on Monday with the winner advancing to the championship round.
