A disastrous start sealed May River’s fate in a 10-1 loss to visiting Cheraw on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 3A softball playoffs.
The visiting Braves plated nine runs in the first inning, and the Sharks weren’t able to muster enough offense to get back in the game.
Maddie Armistead was 2-for-2, and Olivia Turpin was 1-for-3 with an RBI for May River. Starter Gabby Ximenez took the loss, allowing six runs on just two hits.
The Sharks (12-6) will face the Gilbert-Academic Magnet loser in an elimination game Saturday.
