Thomas Heyward Academy sent Hilton Head Prep to its first loss in region play with a 5-4 home victory Friday.
Three Dolphins errors opened the door in a four-run third inning for the Rebels. Bryce Tillotson was 2-for-3 with a run, and Roman Padgett was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for THA.
Tillotson also earned the win, allowing three runs (two earned) over five innings with eight strikeouts, and Brendlen gave up one run in 1 1/3 innings for the save.
Luke Foley was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Connor McDonnell was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Dolphins, who left 11 runners on base.
“We got ‘em on and got ‘em over, but just couldn’t get ‘em in, and that’s because Thomas Heyward made the key plays at all the right times,” HHP coach Chris Wells said. “Would’ve, could’ve, should’ve won that game five different kind of ways but just couldn’t overcome our third-inning blunders.”
HHP (9-2, 5-1) hosts Battery Creek at 4:30 p.m. Monday. THA (5-7, 3-2) hosts Beaufort High at 6 p.m. Friday.
