Hilton Head Prep outslugged host John Paul II for a 16-13 win Thursday to stay undefeated in region play.
The Golden Warriors put up a six-spot in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 11, but the Dolphins answered with four runs in the top of the fifth and held on for the win.
“What a crazy game that was,” HHP coach Chris Wells said. “Hats off to our guys for simply having enough fight to grind out a victory tonight.”
Jaiden Hrobar (2-for-3, 3B, 2 SBs, 4 RBIs), Gage Hurlbut (3-for-3, 3B, 2 R, 3 RBIs), and Will Gray (3-for-3, 3 R, 2 SBs) led the Dolphins’ offense. Connor McDonnell earned the win in relief of Tommy Stauffer, allowing five runs (two earned) and three hits over four innings.
Adrian Skipper (3-for-4, 3B, 2 R), Hayden Jennings (2 H, 3 RBIs), Ray Johnson (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBIs), and Peter Hughes (2-for-4, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBIs) led JPII at the plate.
HHP (8-1, 4-0) hosts rival Hilton Head Christian Academy on Monday. JPII (3-3, 1-2) hosts First Presbyterian for a doubleheader Saturday.
