Hilton Head Prep picked up another big region win Tuesday, beating visiting Thomas Heyward 4-2 behind a strong pitching performance from Luke Foley.
Foley limited the Rebels to two unearned runs and seven hits with nine strikeouts and three walks in a complete game. He outdueled THA’s Louie Smith, who allowed four runs and five hits, striking out six and walking four.
“Heck of a game by both teams,” HHP coach Chris Wells said. “Each pitcher went the distance and I couldn’t be prouder of Luke’s performance on the bump today. He threw all three pitches for strikes and got us to the finish line for a big region win.”
Connor McDonnell was 1-for-3 with an RBI single in the sixth, Tommy Stauffer was 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a run, and Foley added a hit and scored a run for the Dolphins.
Johnny Brendlen had two hits for the Rebels.
HHP (7-1, 3-0) travels to John Paul II on Thursday for a key region matchup. THA (5-4, 2-1) also faces the Golden Warriors next, traveling to JPII on Tuesday.
