Gamecocks, Will Miles Win Palmetto Invitational With Record-Breaking Performance

Hilton Head Island native Will Miles earned his first collegiate victory and led South Carolina to the team title with a record-breaking performance at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Aiken.

Miles shot 13-under-par 197 over three rounds at the venerable Palmetto Golf Club, going wire-to-wire and winning by nine shots while breaking the tournament scoring record. The Gamecocks’ 54-hole score of 27-under 813 set the school and tournament records and gave South Carolina a whopping 35-shot victory over Virginia and UAB.

Miles opened with a 64 and was tied for the lead with UAB’s William Walker III, but he was alone atop the leaderboard the rest of the way, shooting 65 in the second round and closing with a 68.

Bluffton native Bryson Nimmer shot 67-68-74 to tie for seventh and help Clemson finish fourth, and Hilton Head Island native Andrew Orischak posted 70-71-73 to tie for 15th and help Virginia tie for second.
