USCB’s baseball team picked up its first Sun Conference wins of the season over the weekend, taking two of three at Florida Memorial.
After a 6-4 win in Friday’s series opener, the Sand Sharks dropped the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader 8-7 before bouncing back to win the rubber game 13-6.
Ryan McManus had a key two-run single in a three-run fifth inning to break open a tied game in the opener, and Eamonn Collins allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win.
USCB took a 7-6 lead with two runs in the ninth inning of game 2, only to see the Lions answer with two in the bottom of the frame for a walk-off win. Rob McKinney was 3-for-5 and scored twice and Bobby Wenthe hit a solo homer for the Sand Sharks.
The Sand Sharks used a seven-run sixth inning to prevail in a wild finale, as Wenthe went 2-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs, Tristan Triplett was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Cole Hamilton and Tavaris Terrell each added two hits and an RBI.
USCB (6-8, 2-7) hosts St. Andrew’s for a single non-conference game at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
