May River boys soccer fell just short of the Charleston Soccer Shootout title, losing 1-0 to Class 5A power J.L. Mann in the final Sunday.
The Patriots scored the game’s lone goal midway through the second half and kept the Sharks off the board to preserve the win.
“We did a good job of moving the ball and attacking, but we just couldn’t put one in goal,” May River coach Misael Garzon said. “They took advantage of a big mental lapse on a set piece and scored. Overall it was a solid weekend against nothing but 5A teams and will help us in getting to where we want to be at the end of the season. Only allowing two goals against 5A teams with our young defense will greatly help in our development.”
Goalkeeper Matthew Turner had four saves in the loss.
May River (1-1-1) travels to Savannah Christian on Tuesday.
