USCB Softball Opens Season With Sweep Of Koalas

USCB’s softball team marked new coach Bailey Wigness’ debut with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Columbia (S.C.) College on Friday. 

The Sand Sharks turned in strong pitching and defensive performances in both games, winning 2-0 and 6-3. 

Senior Abby Pac shut out the Koalas in game 1, striking out eight while allowing six hits in a complete game. 

Rachel Frankhouser was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and scored both runs for the Sand Sharks, and Natassja Hatcher had an RBI. 

Sophomore Maria Molloseau went the distance in game 2, allowing three runs — two earned — and six hits with five strikeouts. 

Shania Domingue went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Melina Martinez was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, and Frankhouser and Kylie Kelly each scored twice. 

The Sand Sharks (2-0) host Montreat (N.C.) for a doubleheader at noon Saturday.
