Tennis: Top Seeds Claim Doubles Crown, Singles Final Set At Shipyard Cup

The doubles champions have been crowned and the singles final is set at the USTA Pro Series $15,000 Shipyard Cup on Hilton Head Island.

Top-seeded Barbara Gatica of Chile and Rebeca Pereira of Brazil outlasted Allura Zamarripa and Maribella Zamarripa of the United States in Saturday’s doubles final, winning 7-6(2), 3-6, 11-9 at Van Der Meer Shipyard Resort. Gatica and Pereira survived three-set thrillers in three of their four matches in the main draw.

Top-seeded Bianca Turati of Italy advanced to the final with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 win over Justina Mikulskyte of Lithuania on Saturday. Turati will face No. 3 seed Michaela Bayerlova of the Czech Republic, who defeated No. 6 seed Rasheeda McAdoo 6-2, 6-3 in the other semifinal.

The singles final is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday.
