It ended on a sour note, but that did little to spoil the Hilton Head All-Stars’ remarkable run through the Dixie Youth Baseball AA Machine Pitch World Series.
Hilton Head won its first two games Tuesday to force a winner-take-all championship game before losing 6-2 to Florida in the finale.
The day began with an elimination game against Mississippi, which Hilton Head won 6-4 to earn a trip to the championship round and a rematch with Florida. Hilton Head avenged Monday’s loss to Florida with a thrilling comeback victory, erasing a 5-0 deficit and scoring five runs in the fifth for a 6-5 victory to force the decisive contest.
Hilton Head grabbed a 2-0 lead early in the rubber match, but Florida put together a late rally to claim the championship.
Hilton Head finished the tournament with a 6-2 record.
