The Beaufort Ospreys used a five-run fifth inning to take control and held on for a 7-6 win over visiting Hampton in their American Legion League 1 opener Wednesday at Beaufort High School.
Hampton grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning and made it 3-0 in the fourth before Beaufort got the bats going.
The Ospreys scored a pair of runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-2 and erupted for five runs in the fifth to take control. Wade Olivarri tied the game with an RBI single, Paul Winland but Beaufort ahead with a two-run single, and Drew Luckey followed with a two-run double to break it open.
Hampton chipped away with a run in the sixth and a two-run homer with one out in the seventh before Winland retired the next two hitters to preserve the win and earn the save.
Olivarri was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Cooper Woods was 2-for-4, and Michael Graupner added an RBI single.
Brendan Bowersox earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) over three innings of relief.
The Ospreys (3-2) travel to Walterboro for a league game at 7 p.m. Thursday.
