Ridgeland’s Tommy Schaff, Beaufort’s Matt O’Quinn, and Bluffton’s Nathan Stamey all advanced through U.S. Open local qualifying at two different sites Monday.

Schaff and O’Quinn were among five golfers who advanced at Bluffton’s Belfair Golf Club, and Stamey earned one of five spots in qualifying at Pinewild Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C.

Schaff shot 4-under-par 68 on Belfair’s West Course to tie for second along with former Hilton Head Island resident D.J. Trahan, one shot behind medalist Tadd Fujikawa. Cody Proveaux shot 69 to finish fourth, and O’Quinn shot 70 and made birdie on the first playoff hole to claim the final spot.

Stamey shot 3-under 68 to tie for third on the Magnolia Course at Pinewild.

The qualifiers now advance to sectional qualifying for the 118th U.S. Open Championship, to be played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., from June 11-17.
