HS Softball: Late Rally Ends Dolphins’ Dream Season

Battery Creek’s historic season came to an end with a 3-2 loss at Hanahan in the Class 3A Lower State final Friday.

The Dolphins were two outs away from forcing a decisive second game when an error opened the door for the Hawks to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh and advance to the state championship series.

Emily Crosby was 3-for-4 with an RBI single that tied the game at 1 in the fifth. Julianna Greer added an RBI single in the sixth to give the Dolphins a 2-1 lead before the Hawks’ rallied in the seventh.

Alexis Ortiz allowed three runs – all unearned – and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts.

Battery Creek (25-8) enjoyed its most successful season ever, winning the region title and advancing to the Lower State championship game for the first time in program history.
