Nick Bass threw a complete game and Jeffrey Hodge drove in two runs as May River clinched the Region 8-3A title with a 4-3 win over visiting Wade Hampton on Wednesday.
Logan Wake and Kamryn Gleason also drove in runs, and Cooper George had two hits for the Sharks.
The Red Devils pushed across three runs in the third with the aid of a May River error, but the Sharks took advantage of two Wade Hampton errors to answer with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Wake’s RBI single started the scoring in the big inning, and Hodge followed with a two-run single to tie it. Gleason’s sacrifice fly scored Wake with the go-ahead run.
Bass made the lead hold up, working out of a jam in the fifth and stranding two runners in the seventh. He allowed three runs (one earned) and five hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
The Sharks (17-3, 10-1) travel to Wade Hampton to wrap up the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday.
