Alexis Ortiz struck out nine in a complete game and hit two home runs to lead Battery Creek softball to a 12-2 win over May River on Friday.
Ortiz was 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs, Kelsey Hill was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, and Journeigh Doray was 2-for-4 with a homer for the Dolphins, who swept the three-game Region 8-3A series. McKenzie Yougn also had two hits and an RBI, and Julianna Greer had a triple and two RBIs.
Ortiz allowed two runs and six hits while walking one.
Kylee Gleason had a double, a triple, and an RBI for the Sharks, and Hayley Welsch drove in a run.
Battery Creek (8-0, 6-0) hosts Ridgeland-Hardeeville for a region doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Monday. May River (4-5, 3-3) travels to Thomas Heyward for a non-region game at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
