Sand Shark Baseball Runs Win Streak To 7

The USCB baseball team swept a three-game series from visiting Fisher (Mass.) on Friday and Saturday, running the Sand Sharks’ winning streak to seven games.

The Sand Sharks swept a doubleheader from the Falcons on Friday, winning 9-8 and 9-4, and held on for a 9-8 win in Saturday’s finale.

Kelvin Brito’s RBI single in the seventh inning gave USCB a walk-off win in game 1 on Friday. Noah Matthews went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Brito and Nick Delbianco each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Chris Vazquez was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs. Ryan Reynolds earned the win with two innings of relief, allowing one unearned run and two hits.

The Sand Sharks staked freshman Zach Hall to a big early lead in game 2. Matthews led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, and Alex Murphy was 2-for-3 and scored twice.

USCB again built a big margin in the finale, leading 9-3 before Fisher scored five runs in the eighth inning. Kevin Ortiz-Arroyo got the Sand Sharks out of a jam in the eighth and pitched a scoreless ninth to save it for Daniel Wagner, who allowed one hit over three scoreless innings. Murphy was 1-for-2 with three runs and three RBIs, Brito and Mclean Hartz each had two hits and an RBI, and Matthews and Delbianco each went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

USCB (12-8) hosts No. 15 Middle Georgia State for a single game at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The Knights handed the Sand Sharks their most recent loss, 14-4 in Cochran, Ga., on Feb. 27.
