May River boys’ soccer played Oceanside Collegiate to a 2-2 draw before winning 5-4 in penalties Friday.
Mikey Chappelear opened the scoring in the fifth minute, finishing an assist from Nick Lewis, before the Landsharks tied it at 1 going to halftime.
Oceanside took a 2-1 lead two minutes into the second half, but Nahuel Mieres assisted on Conner Golden’s equalizer in the 72nd minute to draw the Sharks even.
Tony Rodriguez had five saves for May River, including one during the shootout that gave the Sharks the win.
“We did very little offensively tonight, and it took us a while to get going,” May River coach Misael Garzon said. “Kudos to Oceanside for their solid play. I’m proud of the boys for fighting and getting a positive result against a good squad.”
The Sharks (8-1) travel to Hilton Head Christian Academy at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
