Thomas Heyward’s softball team went on the road and knocked off defending SCHSL Class 3A state champion Hanahan 1-0 on Thursday.
Cheyenne Strong struck out 11 and allowed only one hit in what Rebels coach Bob Layman called her best performance in two years.
The Rebels scored the game’s lone run in the fourth, when Ivy Bryan reached on an error, and scored when the Hawks made an errant throw trying to cut her down at second on Strong’s sacrifice attempt.
Strong also had two hits and Abigail Hayes had a hit for Thomas Heyward.
The Rebels play in the SCISA Preseason Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Sumter.
